Out on the Town: Gardens of Delight
Chef and artist Hanna Hurr, the creative mind behind the culinary studio Figwaspe, recently unveiled her vision for a multisensory experience titled Petrichor at Problem Library in San Francisco. The installation, which took place over two days and blended culinary storytelling with spatial, floral and fragrance design was done in collaboration with scent artist Arianna Khmelniuk and floral designer Abby St. Claire (who works with Geremia Design, Jake Arnold among others).

Hanna derived the title of the installation, Petrichor, from the Greek words “petra” (meaning “stone”) and “ichor” (the ethereal fluid filling the veins of the Ancient Greek gods). The installation encompassed four “gardens” of tastes, scent-infused natural stone and sculptural florals, giving form to ephemeral and organic experience.

“I’ve long been fascinated by the sensory experience one has of environmental, elemental phases in a single day—as the sun passes through the sky, bringing us from light to dark, warmth to cold, and dry air to moisture,” Hanna says of her inspiration for Petrichor. “The aim for Petrichor was to capture and linger upon these states of ephemeral experience.”
