Save the Date: A Taste of Art
Join the California Home+Design team on October 24, at Sub-Zero’s new showroom on La Cienega—The Luxury Kitchen in collaboration with Source Art, an art consultancy group that has carefully selected work from emerging and mid-career L.A.-based artists. The exclusive event will feature a work by Russell Young—an American-British Pop artist known for his large-scale silkscreen paintings of cultural icons—created in collaboration with iconic musician Mick Rock featuring the legend David Bowie. The sale of the work will benefit The Art of Elysium, a charity that utilizes arts-based programming to connect and support individuals affected by illness, hospitalization, displacement, confinement, and/or crisis.

“Source Art is delighted to unveil their latest showroom curation,” says founder MaryLinda Moss. “In line with the event’s theme, we’ve carefully selected a group of local artists whose work offers a fresh perspective on The Luxury Kitchen brand, bridging fine art and high-end design.”
While touring the pop-up gallery, guests will enjoy wine, cocktails and bites in the gorgeous new showroom that features the renowned appliance company’s latest and most innovative products. Here, Source Art shares a taste of other featured artists that will be showing in this robust show.
Daniel Canogar is a multidisciplinary artist who works across the mediums of photography, video, sculpture and installation reflects a substantial change in our relationships with screens. Gust Small is a work made with flexible LED tiles, a technology that allows the artist to create curved screens. It is part of a series of works that respond to this new concept of screen-skin.
Known for his 3D mixed-media assemblages, Rob Grad’s work features heavily layered vignettes of majestic natural environments with moments of urban life, infused with his drawings, paintings and words–an aesthetic largely shaped by his two decades living in Venice Beach, CA. Grad’s work addresses existential issues surrounding desire, self-expression, and resilience in a society inundated by technology, social media and politics.
Mei Xian Qiu is an L.A.-based artist who was born in the town of Pekalongan, on the island of Java, Indonesia, to a third generation Chinese minority family. At birth, she was given various names in preparation for societal collapse and variant potential futures, a Chinese name, an American name and an Indonesian name given by her parents, as well as a Catholic name by the local priest. Throughout her childhood she spent time in both countries followed by studying art at an art colony in the Loire Valley of France as well as gaining her education as a civil rights lawyer. Her colorful and confrontational work is influenced by Self Help Graphics and her own cultural history.
Artist Bruce Dean received his Master of Fine Arts degree from Otis Art Institute in 1974 with a focus on painting and drawing. He applied his educated skills across many platforms including showing as an exhibiting abstract artist; composing editorial, corporate and advertising illustrations and also worked as an international poster artist for over forty five years. His breadth of work has been featured in over forty solo shows and his posters and illustrations have been featured in numerous books and magazines.
L.A.-based sculptor Beverly Morrison, has been refining her style and techniques in clay for over two decades. Her work explores the raw form of clay while embracing Eastern philosophies of imperfection. Through her unique process, the honors her muse—mother nature—by engaging in the “sculptural dance” from start to finish. “My sculptures, referred to as ‘Modern Day Relics,’ embody the primitive elegance and raw energy of the human experience,” she notes. “Clay, with its unique qualities and personality, is a vital part of my creative process. I approach the material with reverence and devotion, fostering a symbiotic relationship as I sculpt. The clay absorbs and holds onto the stories I tell, enabling me to express narratives with ease and understanding. To me, clay is the flesh of the earth and each piece I create reflects the deep bond I have with this elemental material and my wish to share that connection with the world.”
